As reported by Censor.NET citing the press service of the military prosecutor's office of the Southern region, the Ministry of Defense, under a state contract with Motor Sich PJSC, has purchased helicopters unfit for military purposes.
"Moreover, their technical condition and on-board facilities do not allow for performing set out tasks. However, the officials of a military unit approved the purchase and supply of the helicopters. It was also established that the same helicopters had already been sold by the Ministry of Defense to the said company in 2010 as surplus military property unfit for use," the press service says.
The state has lost some 12.7 million hryvnia ($472,961) as a result of the fraud.
The officials face five to seven years in prison.
