Commanders in charge of the special operation in Kniazhychi were in a restaurant during the shootout when several policemen were killed.

This was announced by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko, Censor.NET reports, citing TSN.

According to him, it is unclear what the police commanders were doing in the restaurant and in what condition they where.

As reported earlier, five police officers were killed in the shooting on Sunday night in the village of Kniazhychi, the Kyiv region. Two of them were servicemen of the security police, two were police investigators, and one was a KORD special purpose unit serviceman.

According to Interior Ministry Adviser Anton Herashchenko, it was an accidental skirmish caused by a mistake that led to the deaths of five servicemen.

The prosecutor's office of the Kyiv region is conducting pre-trial investigation into the incident.

Acting National Police Head Vadym Troian claims the criminal gang acted under the cover of law enforcers.
