 General Staff reform and army combat capacity build-up among key priorities for 2017, - Poltorak

Next year, the reform of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces of Ukraine provides for rebuilding the General Staff by 60 percent and raising the combat capabilities of the army and other military authorities.

Minister of Defense, General of the Army of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak said Dec. 8 during a meeting with foreign military attachés, representatives of international organizations accredited in Ukraine and foreign advisors at the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, Censor.NET reports citing the ministerial press service.

"Our primary tasks for the coming year include the approval of the State Program for the Development of Armed Forces of Ukraine till 2020 and further fulfillment of the 2016-2020 Action Plan for the Implementation of Defense Reform. Our priority is to develop Special Operations Forces, restore our Navy capacity, armament and military equipment of Ukraine's Land Forces and Air Force, ensure the combat training of troops, and set up an efficient system of logistics and standardization," he said.
