This was announced by commercial director of Naftohaz of Ukraine National Joint Stock Company Yurii Vitrenko, Censor.NET reports citing LIGA.
"We purchase gas from the largest European gas companies. Many of them extract gas on their own. Many buy gas from other extracting companies, including Gazprom, which prevented us from buying gas in Europe.
"According to information by Russian newspapers, Gazprom spent $5 billion on its failed attempts to block our gas import from Europe. We are grateful to companies that weren't afraid to undermine their relations with Gazprom and started selling us gas," Vitrenko said.
The Naftohaz director also said market price for gas from Europe was lower than contract prices from Gazprom in most of the months this year. On Nov. 25 Naftohaz announced it was ready to purchase gas from Russia under conditions in previous 'winter packages.'
On Nov. 25 Ukraine marked exactly one year of not buying gas from the aggressor state, Russia. Russian gas only flows through Ukraine on its transit to Europe.
