As reported by Censor.NET citing the president's press office, the relevant decree was signed on Nov. 21.
"Andrii Snitko is awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously for diligent fulfillment of his duties, loyalty to the Ukrainian people, the exemplary accomplishment of the combat missions, display of courage and heroism under threat to life and health of citizens," the statement reads.
Snitko took an active part in the protests since the early days of the Revolution of Dignity. He volunteered to the Azov special patrol police battalion of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine when the Russian armed aggression began. He displayed bravery in a series of combat operations to liberate the city of Mariupol in the Donetsk region in July and August 2014.
His squad was carrying out a combat mission near the city of Ilovaisk in the Donetsk region on Aug. 20, 2014. His detachment was mopping up the area from the terrorists when a hand grenade was thrown at the soldiers. Andrii covered the grenade with his body without hesitation to retrieve his companions-in-arms from the certain death at the cost of his own life as he realized that members of his squad were facing deadly peril. The hero was 18 years old.
"Serhii Tabala is awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously for fortitude, courage, and heroism he showed defending Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the statement reads.
Native of Sumy, Serhii Tabala (call sign Sievier) actively participated in the Revolution of Dignity from early December 2013. The 18-year-old patriot volunteered to defend his homeland against the armed terrorist groups in the anti-terrorist operation zone. He was holding the line in the Donetsk airport, was wounded, but did not left his companions-in-arms. The 'Cyborg' died a war hero Nov. 6, 2014, being killed by a projectile explosion as militants were storming the control tower of the Donetsk airport.
Tabala was buried in the Alley of Glory at the Central cemetery in his native city of Sumy. One of the streets in the city was named after him. The memorial plate was also set up in his honor in the Sumy Specialized School No. 9.
