"Today, hero of Ukraine, Major Oleksandr Petrakovskyi arrived at TIRR Memorial Hermann clinic in Houston (USA) for medical treatment and rehabilitation," he wrote.
Rozenko added that all the necessary funds to cover the treatment had been allocated from the state budget.
On July 20, 2014, a special task group led by Petrakovskyi was ambushed near the Luhansk airport. Oleksandr was severely injured in the head but continued to command the group and take the wounded to a safe place. While treated, a medical mistake occurred after which Oleksandr's heart stopped. Since then, his family has been raising funds to proceed with treatment and rehabilitation of the warrior abroad and even put up his medals for sale. In June 2016, the Presidential Administration stepped in and promised to help with treatment.
For exceptional courage, heroism and fortitude displayed in defending the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Oleksandr Petrakovskyi was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and a Gold Star Order.
