"I took ownership to subsequently transfer it to community," - MP Matvienko on church included in his e-declaration

Deputy Chairman of Petro Poroshenko Bloc (PPB) parliamentary faction Anatolii Matvienko says he became the owner of the church in the village of Byrlivka in the Bershad district of the Vinnytsia region to subsequently transfer the ownership to the community.

The lawmaker told journalists on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada, Censor.NET reports.

"This asset is to be transferred (to the community - Ed.) to administer the divine service there. It is necessary to legalize the property in order to become a rightful owner. It is impossible to transfer the ownership of an untitled asset. The ownership (of the asset - Ed.) has been being transferred to the village community for over a year now. I expect this process to be completed after the session of the local council on Friday. That's the trick. If you want to make someone a gift, you have to legalize it," Matvienko explained.

He also said that the church had been under construction for 4.5 years adding that he was the one who initiated it.

"I was not directly involved in its construction (the church - Ed.). It was built by a great number of people who have taken a collective decision. It is easy for the people who do not understand what the faith is to spread rumors that I own a church which I recover a rent for," Anatolii Matvienko said.
