 "We were first separated and then pitted against each other," - Putin on Russia-Ukraine relations

President Vladimir Putin of Russia said he considers Russians and Ukrainians to be one nation.

As reported by Censor.NET citing ZN.UA, Vladimir Putin said delivering speech at the Valdai club's session in Sochi.

"We were first separated and then pitted against each other. But it's our own fault and we must find a way out of this situation on our own. I am convinced that the reason will prevail and we will find a way out," the president said.

Putin said that he always believed that the Russians and Ukrainians were one nation.

"There are people holding extreme views, nationalist ones, both in Russia and in Ukraine, but in general, we are one nation, by and large, the nation with the same history, same traditions, very close ethnically," the president of the aggressor state claimed.
