 Germany to allocate 488,000 euros for mine clearance operations in Donbas in 2016

The German government plans to allocate 488,000 euros for explosive ordnance disposal and mine clearance operations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2016.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement of the German Embassy in Ukraine.

The statement reads: "Since early October, the German Government has been contributing to the clearance of the former conflict zones in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions currently controlled by the Ukrainian Government from explosive ordnance and mines.

"To this end, the German government has commissioned HALO NGO (Hazardous Area Life-support Organization) to clear minefields near Sieverodonetsk, Mariupol, and Kramatorsk. An assessment team and three squads of EOD experts will be involved in the mine clearance operations.

"The Federal Government will allocate 488,000 euros for this purpose as early as this year," the statement reads.

The embassy said that it was planned to provide support in the following years as well.
