Former Head of the Kachanivska female penal colony No.54 Ivan Pervushkin shot himself dead. Former Ukrainian Prime Minister, leader of Batkivshchyna Party and people’s deputy Yulia Tymoshenko served her sentence in this colony.

As reported by Censor.NET, a source in a law enforcement agency confirmed this information to MediaPort news outlet.

The Communication Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region confirmed that a 55-year-old man committed suicide. However, the agency was reluctant to disclose the person's name.

"The wife of the deceased reported about the incident to the Derhachi police precinct. The law enforcers established that the woman found his 55-year-old husband with a wound to the jaw in a garage in the village of Berezivske on the evening of Oct. 23. The police officers inspected the crime scene and found a rubber-bullet handgun which belonged to the deceased. The investigators determined that it was a suicide. The circumstances of the incident are being checked," the police reported.

Ivan Pervushkin was born in 1961. He worked in the penal system for many years and retired from the post of the Kachanivska colony chief in September 2012, nine months before Yulia Tymoshenko was taken there to serve her sentence.
