Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine on European Integration Serhii Petukhov wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.
"After yesterday's publicity, Oleh was transferred to a punishment cell for 15 days. His sister Natalia wrote that he might be tortured," Petukhov wrote.
Petukhov has stressed that tortures are prohibited by the European Human Rights Convention, signed by Russia, among others.
"A person can not be tortured or suffer inhuman treatment under no circumstances. Russia should assure regular access of Ukrainian consul and the representatives of the Red Cross to Oleh in order to monitor his health and personal safety," Petukhov added.
the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine appealed to the Justice Ministry of Russia with a request to extradite political prisoner Oleksii Chernii illegally convicted in Russia.
Russia has also denied Ukraine the transfer of Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko sentenced to 10 years in prison by Russia's court.
Since the beginning of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, several Ukrainian citizens have been taken hostage by the Kremlin. The exact number of Russian-held Ukrainians is unknown. At this point, according to official data, some 20 Ukrainians are being held for political reasons in Russian prisons, including in occupied Crimea. The story of captive Ukrainian pilot Nadiia Savchenko caused massive public outcry.
Hennadii Afanasiev and Yurii Soloshenko were among the Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia. Afanasiev was sentenced to seven years in prison as a suspect in the case against Ukrainian film-maker Oleh Sentsov charged with organizing a terrorist group in occupied Crimea and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Afanasiev was tried under a special procedure after he agreed to testify against other defendants. However, at the trial of Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko, Afanasiev refused to testify, claiming torture during interrogation.
