The EU is not going to just idly watch the humanitarian situation and the problem of human rights violations in Syria not changing, Merkel said on Friday, Oct. 21, after the EU summit in Brussels.
Merkel added that if the situation in Syria does not improve and barbaric acts continue, the EU will take measures not only against the Syrian authorities but also in relation to all its allies, including Russia.
The chancellor added that the EU will definitely resort to sanctions if bombings continues. According to her, too little were done during the EU summit regarding the Syrian issue, AFP reports.
Merkel also stressed that the EU demands to cease bombings in Syria, establish a lasting cease-fire and let humanitarian organizations reach civilian population. According to her, the EU leaders agreed that all possible means should be used to improve the situation in Syria.
