Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius said Russia cannot be the aggressor state for Ukraine and act as a peacemaker elsewhere simultaneously, Censor.NET reports citing Radio Svoboda.
According to the diplomat, the sanctions are the logical path to follow and the only leverage used to keep the pressure up on Moscow.
Linkevičius stressed that it was critical to maintain this pressure otherwise no changes should be expected in the area of combat operations.
The Lithuanian foreign minister believes that when problems are distant or beyond one's concern, it would appear that these problems do not exist, as it happened with the Russian aggression in Ukraine. He recalled that it was initially perceived as a local conflict while many called it "the Ukrainian conflict."
Linkevičius emphasized that the hybrid war in the Donbas was not the Ukrainian conflict but the war waged against Ukraine, and called on to refer to it properly.
According to the diplomat, the international community cannot blame itself in aggression or annexation since it has nothing to do with them. However, he believes that the global community shares the responsibility for these developments due to its inaction in due time.
