 Russian spy detained in Rivne charged with treason, spokesperson for SBU says

The Ukrainian citizen detained in Rivne for spying for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has been charged with treason.

This was announced by spokesperson for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Olena Hitlianska, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine.

"The criminal proceedings were initiated under article 111 of the Criminal Code - treason. The article envisages imprisonment from 10 to 15 years," she said.

As reported, in Rivne, the officers of the SBU's Counterintelligence Department detained a Ukrainian national who was an active agent of the Russian intelligence agency. He was tasked to cultivate a senior staff officer of the Ukrainian Armed Force's Ground Troops. The Russian spy arrived in Ukraine Oct. 7, 2016 to receive "classified" papers previously "improved" by the Ukrainian secret service operatives. The next day, the spy was nabbed red-handed by the SBU officers when he was receiving the flash-drive with misinformation which he considered to be top-secret Army documents.
