 Russia's Duma unanimously approved indefinite aircraft deployment in Syria

State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, has ratified a Russian-Syrian agreement on the indefinite deployment of Russia’s air task force in Syria.

As reported by Censor.NET citing TASS, the ratification was unanimously supported by 446 deputies.

The document was signed in Damascus on Aug. 26, 2015 and submitted by the Russian president to the State Duma for consideration almost a year after - on Aug. 9, 2016.

The agreement stipulates that the Russian aviation group is deployed in Syria at the request of the Syrian side at Hmeimim aerodrome in the province of Latakia at no charge.

The Russian air group will be employed based on its commander's decision in accordance with the plans agreed with the Syrian authorities.
