Foreign Ministry recommends Ukrainians to refrain from visits to Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is deeply concerned with the increasing number of provocations by Russian law enforcement agencies against Ukrainian citizens and recommends the latter to refrain from visiting Russia.

The ministry announced in an official statement, Censor.NET reports.

"The number of groundless detentions of our citizens has increased in the territory of the aggressor state. Russian law enforcement agencies are rude with Ukrainians, applying unacceptable methods of physical and psychological punishment, tortures, and other degrading activities. Citizens of Ukraine are refused visits by consuls and lawyers," the statement reads.

Thus, Russia is blatantly violating universal norms of international human rights law, as well as its legal obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 and the Consular Conventions between Ukraine and the Russian Federation of 1994, the ministry added.

The Foreign Ministry called on Ukrainian citizens to refrain from travel to the Russian Federation as long as Ukraine is not capable to provide security for Ukrainians in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin was quoted as saying that Russia has been and remains a dangerous territory for Ukrainians, so everyone traveling there should think twice.
