 Disengagement of forces in Donbas must start immediately, OSCE’s Hug says

The process of disengagement of troops and hardware in the Donbas must start without further delay.

Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine Alexander Hug said at a news briefing in occupied Donetsk, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine.

According to Hug, it is relatively calm along the contact line at the moment and the parties should take advantage of this situation. The observer stressed that disengagement of forces in Donbas had to start immediately and confirmed OSCE's readiness to monitor this process.

In accordance with the framework decision on disengagement of forces and hardware, the OSCE SMM provides permanent monitoring and verification of withdrawn troops and equipment in agreed areas.

Three safe zones of at least 2 square kilometers each will be created in the vicinity of Zolote, Petrivske and Stanytsia Luhanska. The agreement may also cover other sectors. However, they will be identified during further consultations.
