 High Council of Justice declares zero tolerance to corruption in statement on its member bribetaker

The High Council of Justice of Ukraine has issued a statement following today's arrest of one of its members extorting $500,000 in bribe.

Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the High Council of Justice.

The statement reads: "The Prosecutor General's Office reported that its members served a notice of suspicion to a representative of the High Council of Justice charged of bribe extortion.

"The High Council of Justice is guided by the principle of zero tolerance to corruption. Any interference with the trial and judges, including through corrupt practices are unacceptable.

"We expect the investigation of this case to be carried out as fast and impartial as possible.

"We proposed the mentioned member of the High Council of Justice to suspend him from office pending completion of the investigation.

"We also express hope that this situation will not be used for political manipulation, including unlawful interference with the High Council of Justice.

"Chairman of the High Council of Justice Ihor Benedysiuk plans to hold a briefing during a break in the meeting of the High Council of Justice Sept. 22, 2016, approximately at 1 p.m.," the statement reads.

As reported, the members of the PGO's Major Fraud Investigation Department in conjunction with the officers of the SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime apprehended one of the members of the High Council of Justice of Ukraine extorting $500,000 in bribe Sept. 21, 2016.
