Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko said Monday at a meeting of the PACE Committee, Censor.NET reports citing Liga.
According to him, a special PGO department is now involved in character-testing of the prosecutors.
"The second direction is to create together with the American colleagues a special unit of the IG - Inspectorate General. It is being staffed through competition at this very moment. 99 candidates have already appealed for the post of its head. This agency will take instructions from the prosecutor general alone and will be authorized to carry out covert checks of reports on corruption or abuse by any prosecutor," Lutsenko said.
He noted that the Inspectorate General would act within the law and become the "punishing sword" to cleanse the system.
"I am confident that both these agencies will succeed in wiping out several hundreds of prosecutors of the current 15,000 members of Ukraine's prosecuting authorities," he added.
