 Defense Ministry budget to increase by 4.8 billion hryvnia this year, amount to 68 billion hryvnia in 2017, - MP Pashynskyi

The unanimous decision to increase the budget of the Defense Ministry for 2016 by 4.8 billion hryvnia (about $184 million) was taken at today’s joint meeting of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was stated by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense, People's Front faction MP Serhii Pashynskyi.

According to the people's deputy, the Ministry of Defense Board also unanimously supported the Ukrainian Defense Ministry budget for 2017 in the amount of $68 billion hryvnia (about $2.6 billion).

The mentioned 68 billion hryvnia is part of the total budget of 129 billion hryvnia (5 percent of the country's GDP) previously approved by the government and the National Security and Defense Council, allocated for the needs of the defense and security sectors.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak and Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko as well as all their deputies and members of the Committee took part in the meeting of the Board.
