Status quo unacceptable in Donbas, Russia must leave the area, - Klimkin

The status quo in the Donbas is virtually a protectorate of the Russian military and secret services.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said at a joint briefing with Foreign Ministers of Germany and France in Kyiv on Wednesday.

"For me, the Donbas is an integral part of Ukraine, but not only because millions of Ukrainian citizens live there. The status quo of which you speak is actually a protectorate of the Russian military, the Russian special services, while we need to return peace to Ukrainian citizens and just a normal life after all, so that they feel human. They do not feel human there now," he stressed.

According to him, the people do not feel safe in the Donbas as "Russia has actually turned the Donbas in its colony, it has actually occupied it."

"The logic of the Minsk agreements stipulates for Russia to leave the Donbas. The OSCE, on behalf of the international community, should gain control over the Donbas first, and we should resume normal life there after holding free and fair elections," Klimkin summed up.
