NATO standards instantly introduced into new weapons and equipment Ukraine designs and manufactures, - NSDC Secretary Turchynov

Ukraine’s arms and military equipment producers introduce NATO standards into the new weapons early at the design stage to obviate the need for rearmament in the future.

National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said in an interview with UNIAN news agency, Censor.NET reports.

"We produce a wide range of weapons and military equipment today. We laid the foundation and launched this process in 2014. This is production and it takes time. It was definitely impossible to restore everything over March or April 2014. Ukroboronprom has started delivering real results since 2015. We cover all the basic needs of our Armed Forces, National Guard, all defense and law enforcement agencies in hardware and weapons," the NSDC secretary stressed.

"Ukrainian companies produce a lot of items from handguns and assault rifles to armored vehicles and powerful missile systems... But it is hard to cover the entire range of advanced weapons independently. Generally speaking, we have powerful and efficient armored vehicles, but they require advanced scopes, night vision devices, etc. to conform to the highest standards. Therefore, we desperately need the military technical cooperation with our partners," Turchynov said.

"The NATO standards are instantly introduced into the new weapons and equipment we now design and manufacture. We need to arm ourselves so that there will be no need to rearm, so that our weapons will be highly competitive with the best existing counterparts. It is a quite expensive process and a very difficult task to fulfill taking into account budget gap as well as the parliament stonewalling," the official emphasized.
