"Contrary to international law and the warnings of international organizations, the Russian Federation intends to hold elections to the State Duma in the territory of occupied Crimea," Chubarov said.

"The Russian Federation, recognizing the legal nullity and criminal nature of its illegitimate elections in occupied Crimea, nevertheless plans to use the mere fact of these elections as a new propaganda argument allegedly confirming the results and legitimacy of the Crimean referendum it staged on March 16, 2014," he stressed.

He added that Russia's efforts are doomed. Chubarov called them "attempts to engage the adult population of the peninsula in a new crime." The Mejlis chairman reminded that nobody has the right to compel a person to participation in elections, including under the Russian laws.

"Boycotting the Sept. 18 elections is a peaceful nonviolent form of resistance to Russian invaders, available to and worthy of each honest person. Boycotting the Sept. 18 elections is our support for political prisoners and their families. No honest man should come to a polling station on Sept. 18. Let us demonstrate the true unity of the Crimean Tatar people and all the patriots of Crimea to Russian invaders before they rush to leave our land," Refat Chubarov remarked.
