OSCE police mission deployment in Donbas discussed in Vienna, - Klimkin

It is impossible to hold elections in the territories occupied by the pro-Russian militants as well as make preparations for them in insecure conditions.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Ukrinform, this was announced by Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.

"The preparation for free and fair elections, for any elections in the Donbas is actually impossible today as there are more than 2,000 armored vehicles and a huge amount of light weapons," Ukrainian diplomat stressed.

The minister also noted that the discussion of the issue regarding the OSCE police mission was underway in Vienna as several critical issues were to be addressed.

One of the issues was whether the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) could be reinforced for monitoring the section of the Ukrainian border with Russia uncontrolled by the government. Pavlo Klimkin explained that Kyiv had a widely-known common plan with the OSCE: the deployment of the OSCE bases along that section of the border. This plan also stipulates for the installation of the corresponding surveillance equipment, including night-vision cameras and deployment of the OSCE observers at the checkpoints on the Ukrainian side.
