"Torn apart, impoverished and dependent Ukraine is perfect background for Putin," - Russian writer Shenderovich

For as long as Vladimir Putin leads Russia, he will not leave Ukraine alone.

As reported by Censor.NET, this opinion was expressed by Russian writer Viktor Shenderovich in an interview with UNIAN.

"For as long as Putin rules Russia, you [Ukraine - ed.] will not be left alone. Putin is a loser in peacetime, who has lost everything both in the economy and the foreign policy. During peacetime, he is a lame duck, semi-legitimate leader who seized power, depreciated the currency, brought stagnation to the economy, provoked the flight of Russian capital and brains," he said.

"Putin's only political chance is the enemy-surrounded Russia. Therefore, the enemies are constantly reproduced: he simply can't do without them. Putin has to feed people with this scary story, distract them, and maintain restlessness: it's war we have here, fellows, the economy will wait!" the writer remarked.

"It's hard to say what comes next to his head and what will be the size of new provocations. But it is clear that he won't stop and intends to maintain tension in Ukraine. There is a PR moment here as well. Russia is not able to become a prosperous country. The Russians' personal well-being is deteriorating, and Putin needs a good background in such a situation. Torn apart, impoverished and dependent Ukraine is a perfect background for Putin! Of course, he will continue to torment Ukraine: there are enough resources to do that," Shenderovich concludes.
