Leaders of EU countries to consider extension of economic sanctions against Russia in October, - Mogherini

The issue of extending economic sanctions against Russia based on the analysis of the process of implementation of the Minsk agreements will be considered at a meeting of heads of the member countries of the European Union in October.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini told on the first night of the informal meeting of the EU Foreign ministers in Bratislava, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

As for the sanctions, there are no significant differences in positions, Mogherini said. There is no intention to depart from previously agreed assessment that cancellation of sanctions would involve full implementation of the Minsk agreements, she stressed.

According to Mogherini, the EU is ready to provide short-term financial and technical assistance to improve the living conditions of the Donbas population, particularly in the energy sector, as well as in demining of the region.

Other initiatives discussed by EU's foreign ministers involve assistance in organization of local elections in separate areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions when the conditions defined by the OSCE are implemented, including introduction of the OSCE police mission.
