 Germany, France intend to resume stalled negotiations on eastern Ukraine’s conflict settlement, French foreign minister says

Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Marc Ayrault plans to visit Kyiv together with Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The date of the visit is still discussed.

Jean-Marc Ayrault said at a meeting of foreign ministers of the EU member states in Bratislava, Slovakia on Friday, Sept. 2, Censor.NET reports citing DW.

According to him, the target of the German-French efforts is the actual implementation of the Minsk agreements and the cessation of violence in eastern Ukraine. The diplomat stressed that Berlin and Paris were ready to contribute efforts to make possible the productive dialogue between the parties to the conflict. He did not rule out the new meeting in the Normandy format with the participation of representatives of Ukraine and Russia.

In turn, Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that he and his French counterpart were dissatisfied with the pace of implementation of the Minsk agreements. He called the recent days of temporary truce in the Donbas a tiny glimmer and expressed hope that the cease-fire would give a reprieve that would allow discussing more important issues experiencing disputes.
