Conflict in eastern Ukraine to be among OSCE informal meeting’s key topics, Steinmeier says

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier expects to come close to the solution of complex problems, including the conflict in Donbas at today's meeting with colleagues from the OSCE.

He told reporters before the meeting, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

Steinmeier stressed that an intense debate was needed at a time of estrangement between the West and the East, especially between the West and Russia after the annexation of Crimea and beginning of the conflict in Ukraine's east.

He confirmed that the conflict in eastern Ukraine, in particular the establishment of sustainable truce in the region and casualties prevention, would be one of the topical issues today.

Another critical issue that the German minister looks forward to discussing today with the foreign ministers of 40 countries and senior diplomats is the credibility gap. In this context, he considers it important to negotiate arms control. Besides, the migration and refugees issue is also among those proposed for discussion.

As reported, an informal meeting of foreign ministers of the OSCE member states will be held in Potsdam, Germany Sept. 1. It will be attended by the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.
