Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Main Department of National Police in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The accident occurred in Mateivtsi village of Kolomyia district.
Senior police sergeant Boichuk with his colleague was conducting patrolling at Stryi-Chernivtsi-Mamalyha road in the dark hours. They noticed a GAZ-3507 vehicle parked at the side of the road without parking lights, emergency lights or any other signals.
The police officers stopped near the GAZ vehicle and went to check on it. The car was empty, so the services returned to their vehicle to display safety signs. At this moment, a DAF 95 XF 430 truck driven by Chernivtsi resident born in 1962 approached the site. The driver lost control over the situation and run over both cars, the police car and the parked truck, hitting one of police inspectors.
It reported the hit was very strong, forcing the GAZ truck move 15 meters from its parking point. One of the inspectors managed to jump aside, the other one, Ruslan Boichuk, was killed on spot.
The DAF driver was taken to hospital in stress. The investigation is to find out why he did not react timely to the police car's emergency lights.
The killed Ruslan Boichuk was an orphan since childhood. He is survived by three kids.
