"Some stories about Ukrainian servicemen breaking out from encirclement are horrifying and hard to believe," - ‘Shadows of Ilovaisk’ documentary maker Bohdan Pilenko. VIDEO

On Aug. 28 Ukrainian TV channels aired a new documentary dedicated to the second anniversary of the Ukrainian soldiers’ breakout from Ilovaisk.

As reported by Censor.NET, the documentary was made by special correspondent for 112 Ukraine TV channel Bohdan Pilenko.

The filmmaker builds the timeline of the Ilovaisk tragedy in his film: the offensive of the city, the following intervention of the Russian troops, lifting of the blockade, and breakout from the city. At the same time, the film shows stories of entrapped soldiers who have been through a lot before returning home.

Kondrashov Brothers participated in Ilovaisk operation from the very beginning and managed to survive the captivity. Serhii Kovalenko was hiding among the corpses in the morgue not to be found by the militants. The audience learns the details of the events from the stories of their direct participants and reconstruction.

"The events in Ilovaisk became a real tragedy of this war. The Ukrainian troops' breakout from the entrapment and the events that preceded it are hair-raising stories. Some of them are hard to believe. The film shows several such stories," Bohdan Pilenko says.
