 Court arrests three police officers in case of Kryve Ozero resident murder (updated)

Three police officers suspected of involvement in the murder of a man in the town of Kryve Ozero, the Mykolaiv region, have been put under arrest following a ruling by the central district court of Mykolaiv.

Deputy Mykolaiv region prosecutor Stepan Bozhylo announced of arrest of one officer at a briefing, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"At the moment, we know that the court has granted the motion and arrested one of the suspects," he noted.

As reported by 112.Ukraine TV channel, the name of the arrested is Oleksandr Prychypoida.

Later, local news outlet Prestupnosti.NET has announced arrest of the second policeman.

"The second suspect [26-year-old Mykola Khomenko - ed.] is giving the same testimony as the first one. Khomenko says the police officers handcuffed Tsukerman after they shot. He also added that another suspect, police officer Denys Liakhvatskyi, made a shot and beat Tsukerman with a baton as he laid on the ground. Khomenko's lawyer said his client is an anti-terrorist operation (ATO) and Donbas combat activities participant."

The court ruled to arrest Khomenko for a month without the right to bail.

Later, the third suspect, 28-year-old Denys Liakhvatskyi, was brought to the court. He is reported to be a father of two little daughters aged three years and a month and a half. Liakhvatskyi is incriminated with a crime under article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - intended killing. The rest of the officers say he was the only one to shoot.

Liakhvatskyi refused to testify saying he had not slept for three days. The police officer said he agreed with the suspicion under article 365 (Abuse of power), but rejected the 115 article suspicion (Intended killing).

Liakhvatskyi's lawyer insisted his client had been detained illegally before the announcement of the suspicion.

The court ruled to arrest police officer Denys Liakhvatskyi for two month until Oct. 23.

As previously reported, resident of Kryve Ozero town Oleksandr Tsukerman was murdered by police officers during his detention Aug. 24. Next day, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko announced three police officers were apprehended on suspicion of beating to death a man they had previously detained. Three more officers were later apprehended on charges of Tsukerman's murder. The court hearing on pre-trial restraints against the first three suspects is underway. At the moment, the police have revealed the names of all officers present during the murder in the Mykolaiv region.
