 Pope Francis says he prays for peace in Ukraine, calls for more initiatives on conflict settlement and prisoners' release

Pope Francis has announced he prays for peace in Ukraine and has called on the conflict parties and international agencies to end the war as soon as possible.

The Pope said during a general meeting on Aug. 24 on the St. Peter's Square in Vatican, Censor.NET reports citing Radio Svoboda.

Over the most recent weeks, international monitors have been expressing concerns over aggravation of the situation in the east of Ukraine, he said. Today, when this beloved country is celebrating its national holiday, which is the 25th anniversary of its independence this year, the Pope assured he was praying for peace and repeated his call to all involved parties and international agencies to enhance their initiatives on the conflict settlement, the release of prisoners, and finding a solution to the difficult humanitarian situation, Pope Francis said to the audience.
