 Umerov's lawyers to appeal to European Committee against Tortures, - Feygin

Lawyers of deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov, who is under investigation in occupied Crimea, will appeal to the European Committee against Tortures in Strasbourg about FSB's actions against the suspect.

Umerov's lawyer announced on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"We regard as torture the psychological and psychiatric examination conducted in a hospital in Simferopol at the background of Umerov's deteriorating health. It is a violation of the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment," he wrote.

As reported, deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov was arrested in occupied Crimea on May 12. The 'prosecutor' of the occupant Crimean authorities Natalia Poklonskaya said that "Umerov visited the territory of Ukraine in March 2016 and presented live on ATR TV channel, publicly calling for violation of Russia's territorial integrity." In this regard, the investigators of the "FSB in Crimea" opened a criminal case against Umerov on suspicion of calling for violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.
