E-declaration system has no reliable protection, can be compromised by average hacker, - MPs Herashchenko and Vinnyk show fake tax return

Ukrainian lawmakers Anton Herashchenko and Ivan Vinnyk claim it is easy to hack the electronic declaration system, which was run in the test mode Aug. 15, since it does not possess reliable protection.

As reported by Censor.NET citing 112 Ukraine, the MPs demonstrated this at a joint briefing.

Herashchenko showed screenshots of a record from the operating system. According to the people's deputies, a tax return of any official can be forged in the same manner which, in turn, will lead to a political and criminal responsibility.

"From the very beginning, the development of the software for such a significant cause was carried out by unknown organizations without control on the grants allocated by the embassies. This is the road to nowhere," he stressed.

In the meantime, representative of Miranda company developing the system Oleksii Ivashkov said that the system was running in the test mode. He confirmed that it was indeed possible to make changes in it by cracking its code. However, according to him, this will be no more possible after the system receives a certificate and starts operating in a normal mode.

"It is impossible to make changes in the tax return created through a personal account using a valid digital key," he explained.
