 Situation in ATO area escalates: 96 enemy attacks recorded over past day, - Staff

The situation in the area of anti-terrorist operation (ATO) is worsening. Over yesterday, Russian occupation troops committed 96 attacks on Ukrainian army positions.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was stated by the ATO Staff press center in its situation report as at 6 a.m. Aug. 18.

"The majority of the attacks, 45, were recorded at Donetsk direction, including 10 from heavy artillery. Militants committed six artillery strikes on Avdiivka, having fired 134 122-mm rounds. The same caliber was used to hit Pisky, Novoselivka Druha, Pershe Travnia. About 40 shells were fired toward Luhanske," the report reads.

According to the Staff, the enemy keeps using mortars and grenade launchers against Ukrainian troops along the entire demarcation line in this part of the front: "An IFV was employed in Novhorodske and Zaitseve, an anti-tank missile system in Novoselivka Druha. Sniper activity was registered in Avdiivka."

As reported, in the Luhansk region, militants fired 122-mm artillery on Popasna at the beginning and at the end of the day. Novooleksandrivka came under heavy artillery attack as well.

As also noted, the shelling was reinforced by mortar and grenade launcher strikes: "Most of attacks on Zolote, Stanytsia Luhanska and Krymske involved the use of grenade launchers, while enemy hardware was also employed in Stanytsia Luhanska. Sniper activity was registered in Popasna and Novooleksandrivka."

"Despite the increase in enemy activity, ATO forces retain complete control of the situation along the contact line," the press center stated.

As previously reported, Aug. 16, terrorists committed 52 attacks on ATO forces' strong points. The aggravation of the situation is reported along the entire demarcation line.
