Zhytomyr governor Mashkovskyi resigns of his own volition

After more than two years of work as chairman of the Zhytomyr regional state administration, Serhii Mashkovskyi decided to voluntarily resign.

Mashkovskyi himself confirmed this information in a commentary to zhytomyr.info, Censor.NET reports.

"It's true. Today [Aug. 16 - ed.], I tendered resignation of my own volition," the governor noted.

Mashkovskyi added he will answer all questions and comment on the situation after a corresponding presidential decree is signed.

The same information was confirmed to Ukrainski Novyny by Mashkovskyi's spokeswoman Olha Prykhodchenko.

According to her, Mashkovskyi is not going to comment on anything until the Cabinet considers his letter and President Petro Poroshenko signs a dismissal decree.

She only noted that the governor has decided to resign over his plans to take up another job.

As previously reported, on July 22, 2014, a public discussion took place in Zhytomyr regarding the appointment of Serhii Mashkovskyi as governor. Next day, he officially assumed the post.
