 Former deputy chief of Tax Service Holovach detained as suspect in Yanukovych case, - Lutsenko (updated)

The Military Prosecutor's Office (MPO) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have detained former first deputy chief of Ukraine's State Tax Service Andrii Holovach on suspicion of illegal reimbursement of value added tax (VAT) at 3.166 billion hryvnia (approx. $126.690 million).

"As part of investigation into the Yanukovych case, the MPO and the SBU have detained and searched the apartment of former first deputy chief of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, Gen. Col. Holovach.

"Another four tax officials of the Klymenko [former minister of revenue and duties of Ukraine - ed.] era have been detained. In general, they are suspected of illegal VAT refund to fictitious companies controlled by the criminal group of Yanukovych, Azarov, Klymenko for the total amount of 3.166 billion hryvnia," Lutsenko explained.

"The bust of Yanukovych, which Holovach obviously prayed to before going to bed, did not help him. The court has agreed his arrest with alternative of a 200 million hryvnia bail. The motion for the arrest of other detainees will be considered tomorrow. To be continued," the prosecutor general summed up.

According to activists of the 'Stop fictitious VAT reimbursement' public initiative, Holovach was one of notable persons during Yanukovych tenure. He had direct links with Arbuzov and Yanukovych.
