As reported by Censor.NET, press secretary for the prosecutor general of Ukraine Larysa Sarhan wrote on Facebook.
"A big fish snapped at bait... The PGO in conjunction with the SBU detained another suspect in the case of Oleksandr Yefremov - former MP, representative of the Party of Regions (2012-2014) Volodymyr Medianyk. He is suspected of committing a number of criminal offenses, namely: commission of willful acts to change the territory of Ukraine in violation of the Constitution, which led to casualties and other grave consequences, punished under part 3 of article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine; providing organizational and other assistance to the creation and operation of the "LPR" terrorist organization, which is punished under part 1 of article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," she wrote.
"The Pechersk district court of Kyiv is going to consider the petition of the Prosecutor General's Office on his pretrial custody Monday at 9 a.m.," Sarhan added.
As previously reported, another suspect in the case of arrested former head of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction Oleksandr Yefremov, former MP from the Party of Regions Volodymyr Medianyk was taken into custody Aug. 7.
Medianyk together with a group of MPs visited the Russian State Duma in September 2014. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine filed a case under part 2 of article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine by representatives of the authorities).
As reported, on the morning of July 30, Yefremov was detained in Boryspil airport on suspicion of infringement of territorial integrity of Ukraine. The detention was intended to prevent possible escape of the suspect. In the evening the same day he was served with a notice of suspicion.
The PGO had detained former MP Yefremov previously. He had been arrested with the possibility of release on a 3.7 million hryvnia bail. He was bailed out by his colleague MP Borys Kolesnikov.
The court ordered the notorious politician to wear an electronic bracelet.
According to investigators, current charges against Yefremov are related to financing of separatists in the Luhansk region.
As also reported, several criminal proceedings have been opened against Yefremov.
Aug.1, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv has imposed pretrial restriction against former Head of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction Oleksandr Yefremov until Sept. 28.
