 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Mariupol

A 4.7 magnitude quake has been reported on Russian-Ukrainian border, in 35 km from the town of Novoazovsk. The tremor could be felt in a 70-km zone from the center, even by residents of the Zaporizhia region.

As the press service of the Mariupol City Council reports, seismic activity has been recorded in the city of Mariupol at 11:15 a.m. today. Three waves with magnitude of 4.7-4.9 on the Richter scale have been recorded. Tremors have been felt even in Volnovakha and in the vicinity of the town. According to HydroMeteorological Observatory, the epicenter of the quake was located outside Mariupol.

At the moment, no damage has been identified in the residential area of the city. Information about the epicenter of the earthquake is to be confirmed.

"The walls of the house shook; even pictures fell off the shelf. Anything like that ever happened before. It seemed to be an earthquake," residents of Mariupol commented. Many of them thought it was an artillery shelling.

"We all ran downstairs to the shelter," they said.
