 Militants opened fire upon Ukrainian positions 71 times yesterday, mortar-shelled residential areas near Donetsk for nine hours, - Staff

Yesterday, Aug. 2, Russian occupation troops opened fire upon the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces' positions 71 times.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by the ATO press center in its report as at 6 a.m. Aug. 3, posted on Facebook.

According to the Staff, militants opened fire 26 times at Mariupol direction, 30 times at Donetsk direction, 15 times at Luhansk direction. From 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., the enemy conducted mortar shelling of residential areas in settlements near Donetsk.

"At Donetsk direction, the enemy continues armed provocations in Krasnohorivka-Avdiivka-Horlivka area. Here, Russian occupants employed 120-mm and 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns, and small arms, and used an IFV near Luhanske and Maiorsk. It was the hottest in Zaitseve, where the enemy used Minsk-banned heavy cannon artillery," the message reads.

It is also reported that the enemy conducted fire upon Ukrainian strong points at Mariupol direction using mortars of various calibers, grenade launchers, and machine guns.

"It was the hottest in Krasnohorivka. In Marinka, Shyrokyne, Talakivka, and Vodiane the enemy employed infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs). In Marinka, a sniper conducted fire.

"In the Luhansk region, occupants conducted both adjusted and chaotic mortar and grenade launcher fire upon Novozvanivka and Krymske. Novooleksandrivka and Zolote were shelled with grenade launchers by the enemy. In Stanytsia Luhanska, the enemy employed an IFV. A sniper got active in Novozvanivka," the ATO press center noted.

Recon flights of enemy drones were spotted in Donetsk area.

Yesterday, Aug. 2, the occupants fired 21 shells upon residential areas of Avdiivka and Opytne.
