He dwelled on the discussion around recent remarks by Donald Trump on Russian aggression against Ukraine, occupation of Crimea and U.S.-Russia relations on Aug. 2, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of People's Front party.
"We put our hopes upon the wisdom and the institutional power of the Republican Party, which has always been taking a principled position in foreign affairs, defended the fundamental values of the free world, fought against aggressors and terrorists. We believe that Trump's extemporizations will be quelled by the consolidated position of the Republicans. For these statements violate all possible ethical and political principles as well as principles of the international law which distinguish a civilized democratic world from the world of totalitarianism and imperialism," Lubkivskyi said as translated from Ukrainian.
According to him, one cannot ignore Trump's statements as the very fact that they have been voiced poses a threat, taking into account Russia's aggression.
"Trump's statements are dangerous not only as verbal experiments. They are already playing along with the Russian aggression and propaganda. They encourage the Kremlin, signal about the impunity working not only to advantage of Putin, but a great number of other enemies of the civilized world's order," Danylo Lubkivskyi stressed.
According to Lubkivskyi, Donald Trump's rhetoric challenges the ability of Ukrainian politicians to hold a consolidated position and resist populists.
"Trump's statements are also a challenge for Ukraine. First, this is an example of consequences of populism and incompetence. Second, this is a test showing how meaningful and consolidated the Ukrainian political elite's stance is when Ukraine's rights, values of sovereignty, freedom, and security are violated. I regret to say that Arsenii Yatseniuk was the only political leader who immediately reacted to this situation. His position was supported by Arsen Avakov and former Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko. This should push other state officials and political forces to one simple and fundamental conclusion: one cannot bury one's head in the sand when it comes to challenges to the national security, our statehood and territorial integrity, regardless of the authorship of such claims," Danylo Lubkivskyi summed up.
