 Victim in car crash caused by drunken lawmaker Yevsieienko dies in intensive care unit

The driver of the car rammed by Toyota operated by Member of Makariv (the Kyiv region) District Council (Batkivshchyna faction) Matvii Yevsieienko died in the in intensive care unit of the hospital No. 17. His wife is in critical condition.

Oleksii Novikov, who received major injuries in the road traffic accident caused by Makariv District Council Deputy Matvii Yevsieienko, died in the hospital, Censor.NET reports citing TSN.

"The court placed the high roller under house arrest yesterday and the man died today. The woman is in critical condition. We are fighting for her life but the chance is very slim," Head of the Kyiv City Hospital No. 17 Mykola Diomin said.

The wife of the deceased man Larysa Novikova, who has also received severe injuries in the accident, is in a coma.

The court imposed pretrial house arrest on Makariv District Council Member Matvii Yevsieienko the day before and obliged him to wear electronic bracelet.

Yevsieienko caused a drunken car crash in Kyiv at about 1 a.m. July 29. Shortly before the accident he was involved in a conflict, during which he made a shot with his handgun and was escaping from police officers in his Toyota. Two police cars chased him. During the chase, the lawmaker crossed into the oncoming lane and rammed a Volga car with a trailer, which collided with Mazda driving behind it.

A man and a woman who were in the car he rammed had been seriously injured. They were taken to intensive care unit in grave condition.

The police officers apprehended the lawmaker as a result of operational-search activities in Kyiv July 30.
