Russia's Olympic Committee chief says unrealistic criteria bar many Russian athletes from Olympics

Many Russian athletes have been denied participation in the Olympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro as they faced criteria that could not be met under any circumstance.

As reported by Censor.NET citing TASS agency, this was stated by Head of the Russian Olympic Committee Aleksandr Zhukov at a meeting of the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday.

"Isinbayeva, Shubenkov and dozens of other athletes were denied to participate in the Olympic Games as they failed to comply with criteria that could not be met under any circumstances," he said.

The official called on to allow "clean" Russian athletes to participate in the Olympics regardless of the fact that they were mentioned in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) report drafted by Richard McLaren.

Earlier, July 24, the IOC allowed the Russian team to the 2016 Olympics in Rio provided they undergo additional anti-doping testing.
