The letter was initiated by Minister of Culture and Sport of Denmark Bertel Haarder. Berter Haarder said that this was a clear signal that the countries wanted to see clean sport without any fraud. He added that doping was insulting for sports and athlets community. The official stressed that the fact that the fraud had been organized by an entire nation was even more disgusting.

Earlier, the National Anti-Doping Center of Ukraine called on the International Olympic Committee to suspend the Russian Federation from the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The relevant letter was sent to the IOC president on July 20.
