As reported by Censor.NET citing UNIAN, this was announced by Russian President Putin's Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov to journalists in Moscow.
"You've heard the tragic news from Syria, where our aircraft crashed. It had been shot from the ground - the helicopter was on a humanitarian mission. As far as we know from the Defense Ministry, all people on board of the helicopter died. They died a heroic death for they were trying to take away the aircraft in order to minimize casualties on the ground," Peskov said.
He stressed that the Kremlin "offers its condolences to families and friends of the killed military."
Answering a question whether the attack would cause enhancement of the Russian military, Peskov said this should be addressed to the military. He added that exact number of the killed was not certain at the moment.
Mi-8 transport aircraft was shot down by rebels in the Syrian province of Idlib. Earlier, on July 9, two Russian servicemen were killed near the Syrian city of Palmyra when their helicopter was shot down by rebels, bringing the number of Russian military personnel killed in the Syria conflict to at least 12.
