 Mykolaiv region first deputy governor Romanchuk faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property

The Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern region required less than two months to complete a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings against First Deputy Chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Mykola Romanchuk, who is suspected of bribery.

The suspect and his lawyer have been provided with materials of the case.

On June 3, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Vadym Merikov dismissed his first deputy Mykola Romanchuk.

Earlier, investigators of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern region together with SBU officers detained Romanchuk and three other officials accepting $90,000 in bribe for granting permission for a limestone quarry development.

The officials are charged under the article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine that stipulates 8 to 12 years in prison with a ban to hold positions in public service and confiscation of property.
