 Putin strips occupied Crimea of its status of Russian Federation’s federal district

President Vladimir Putin of Russia included occupied Crimea in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation.

This was stated in Putin's decree published on the official website of the Kremlin, Censor.NET reports.

"In order to improve the efficiency of the federal authorities, I hereby resolve to: reorganize the Southern Federal District and the Crimean Federal District into Southern Federal District; appoint Vladimir Ustinov Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Russian president in the Southern Federal District, relieving him of his post," the text of the decree reads.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin terminated the term of office of Sevastopol Governor Sergei Menyailo and appointed him Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Russian president in the Siberian Federal District.
