Poroshenko urges Ukrainian Churches to decide on their position regarding events in Donbas: "A spade must be called a spade"

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko considers it necessary for the Ukrainian Churches to sort out their attitude to events in the Donbas.

He said during the celebration of the Christianization of Rus-Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.

"Two and a half years ago, Moscow waged war against golden-domed Kyiv. A spade must be called a spade. Jesus Christ Himself professed that there was a clear difference between right and wrong. You must give a yes or no answer. I strongly disagree with the mitigating statements about some abstract 'armed conflict' and 'armed confrontation'. This is a foreign opinion, not Ukrainian one. What happens in eastern Ukraine is called a foreign invasion. And I think it is not difficult to find a proper equivalent for this Ukrainian phrase in Church Slavonic," Poroshenko said.

"I want to thank those Churches and religious figures, organizations, all the communities who have made a firm stand for Ukraine doing charitable deed. I am grateful to those of you who continue supporting our Armed Forces, all the defenders of Ukraine with the God's Word, prayers, and humanitarian aid. I express gratitude to all those who help alleviating suffering of the civilians caused by the Russian aggression and pro-Moscow gangs. Despite the international support to our struggle, we know that the victory depends only on us. Our unity is our main weapon in our spiritual struggle," the president added.

"Dear reverend fathers, archbishops, and fellow nationals! I urge you to pray for the soldiers, successors of St. Prince Volodymyr's armed force, who gave their lives defending the independence of our homeland. I also call to pray for those heroic soldiers who are now serving, protecting us. We pray you, the Lord of Peace and Order, to rescue us from the foreign invasion. Let our enemies end in smoke, and their evil plans to destroy our country, Ukraine, to be scattered like the wind scatters the ashes. Let patron saint of Rus-Ukraine, its Christianizer St. Prince Volodymyr join our common prayer to oust the enemy. I believe that he is with us, holding the cross in one hand and the sword in the other to defend his, our homeland," he stressed.
