The gas tariffs in Ukraine can only be lowered if the gas price on the free market scales down.
"I deem this is impossible (reduction of gas tariffs - Ed.). They can only be reduced if the world price of gas is squeezed down. That is, gas has become the same commodity, as, for example, oil or gasoline. Therefore, if the world price lowers, this price [gas tariffs] will be scaled down as well. If it shows the upward tendency, the tariffs will be raised," Koboliev explained.
Naftohaz head said the statements on reduction of gas tariffs were the attempts of politicians to hype themselves.
"It was decided to bind the full gas price to its CIF equivalence, which is the only valid mechanism in the case of Ukraine as importing country. All the rest is the attempts of politicians to hype themselves on things providing certain electoral results," Koboliev said.
