He said on People.HardTalkLive TV show, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraina.
Prosecutor general reminded that criminal proceedings against 19 former Berkut riot police officers were referred to court. Six of them have been detained. Pre-trial investigation is in progress against six more officers (five of whom are on pre-trial detention).
"The proceedings will be referred to court no later than in fall 2016," he said.
Another 36 Berkut officers are still on the wanted list, particularly, former head of the Kyiv Berkut squad. The Prosecutor General admitted that the proceedings will be referred to court as early as this year.
"As for the weapons, we have indeed found arms of the 'black hundred' with help of the Defense Ministry Counterintelligence. They include the sniper rifle which the entire country saw on the terrible video of Maidan protesters being shot from the roof of Zhovtnevyi Palace. We found this rifle and lots of other assault riffles in a lake in Kyiv. They were reduced to fragments and drowned altogether by a group of people, the leader of which was under investigation. Unfortunately, this is the man who, according to our version, led the 'black hundred' out of Kyiv on Zakharchenko's order, destroyed the weapons and drowned them, even though he was protesting with us on Maidan square," the prosecutor general said.
As reported, the PGO referred the criminal proceedings against former Berkut riot police officers Zinchenko and Abroskin to court in 2014. They are suspected of shooting of 39 Maidan activists on Instytutska street in Kyiv on Feb. 20, 2014. On Feb. 10, 2016, the PGO announced the investigation completed and sent criminal proceeding against three other former Berkut officers, Oleksandr Marinchenko, Serhii Tamtura, and Oleh Yanyshevskyi to court. According to the prosecutor's office, these persons are charged with committing a terrorist act, abuse of official duties, murder, attempted murder, obstruction of peaceful meetings and rallies, as well as abstraction and concealment of weapons after the crime. Criminal proceedings against all former Berkut officers are combined into one case.
